The activated carbon (charcoal), thanks to its high porosity, acts as a natural barrier in the filtration system, consistently increasing the absorption
of pollutants, produced during the combustion phase. The activated carbon used by GEM has the peculiarity of being "reusable" through real regeneration cycles. This activity is promoted
by specialized companies, which carry out the service of collecting "saturated" carbon from the customer, to take it to their factory and regenerate it, making it efficient again. The regeneration cycle effectively eliminates the waste substance made up of pollutants that are absorbed by the filter medium, making it easier for the crematorium manager to dispose of waste. The filtration system with activated carbon, positioned downstream of the bag filter, guarantees a controlled pathway of the flue gases through this phase of filtration: GEM Matthews company, in fact, designs the carbon layers in order to adequately regulate the contact times with the flue gas, ensuring targeted and effective filtration. The active carbon is particularly suitable for the abatement of the following pollutants: organic components, dioxins and mercury. Furthermore, the carbon used in the different layers can be impregnated with substances capable of broadening the spectrum of interaction with the main pollutants typical of the cremation process.
